Cape Town Art Fair: a contemporary art hub

Cape Town will be the capital of contemporary African art for three days in February. The Investec Cape Town Art Fair is considered as one of the largest-scale contemporary art events in Africa. The seventh edition is reuniting art galleries, collectors, curators, and artists. The organizers’ concept is to valorize the diversity of works of art representing the vanguard of contemporary African art to the world.

“Every year, the fair attracts considerable attention and generates respect and prestige for the city of Cape Town, as it is a great destination for contemporary art. This is an exciting moment for art, not just for South Africa, but globally”, states Tumelo Mosaka, the curator.

“Contemplating contemporary art in Africa and the World” is the theme of this edition that includes participation from over 90 international galleries. TINAWC (This is Not a White Cube), from Angola, is one of them, that is going to exhibit works of art by Cristiano Mangovo and Nelo Teixeira, from Angola, Hako Hankson Cameroon, and Gonçalo Mabunda, from Mozambique. Art galleries from the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Switzerland will also be present at the art fair.

The Investec Cape Town Art Fair will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC), from February 15th to 17th, 2019. Entrance fees cost around USD$ 13 for one day and USD$ 28 for the three days of the event. Students pay only USD$ 10 to visit the art fair.
