Port traffic in Algeria grows 7%

Port activity in Algeria increased by 7% in the first three months of 2019, compared to the same period of last year. The information is released by Algeria’s Port Services Group (SerPort). Goods handled in the country’s ten ports reached 30.6 million tonnes from January to March. Exports accounted for 19.9 million tons, of which 2.4 million tons of non-oil and gas products, the most important in the country.

The movement of oil, gas, and derivatives reached 19 million tons, an increase of 6% in the same comparison. The sector accounts for 63% of port traffic in Algeria, according to SerPort.

Container traffic reached 523.2 thousand TEUs (equivalent to a 20-foot container), which is equivalent to a 13% increase in the same comparison. The movement of vehicles was 2,234 units, reaching an advance of 1%.
